We were going to write a blog post for November about Bonfire Night events in Ben Rhydding and the Ilkley, Keighley & Otley areas but as we come to post this, local events are either cancelled or in a state of hiatus. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and we’ll keep you updated as we find the latest on these.
Instead, and given the current situation, we thought we’d highlight a few days out and activities, available around the Wheatley Arms over the winter period. Many can be done as small groups, some are more suited to individuals; all can be enhanced by starting, finishing or including within them a little light refreshment… obviously.
For example, in our October post, we talked about how we welcome dogs and highlighted a few dog friendly walks in the area. If that’s you, then you can still read that article, do the walk and bring your pooch for some post perambulation pampering.
However, as the nights get longer and the days cooler, we thought we’d highlight a few of our favourite winter activities and some that our regular visitors like to do when they visit the Wheatley Arms too.
Things to do in Ben Rhydding throughout winter
Winter activities abound in and around the Ilkley area and along the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales & Nidderdale AONB. If you prefer to interrupt your walking with golf there are some excellent courses at Bracken Ghyll, Ilkley, on our doorstep in Ben Rhydding and just down the road in Otley. That makes us a pretty good option for a winter golfing weekend.
For cyclists, a quick look at Strava’s heat maps shows we’re on a very popular route down to Ilkley Moor to the south and up into the Dales to the north. For you lot, do feel free to pop in for tea and medals if it’s cold & wet, we’re open every day.
So, there you go. If you’re lucky enough to find a Halloween or Bonfire Night party near Ben Rhydding, to kick off the early part of the festive season, we’ll be here if you’d like to book a table and make night of it.
If however, the current situation precludes that, then perhaps you’ll think of us and pop in when you’re enjoying the great outdoors and the best that winter has to offer in Nitterdale.
